His father, Nanjappa, was a farmer and a talented musician, who played the harmonium and sang devotional songs. His mother, Gowramma, was a homemaker who instilled in him a love for dance and music. Nanjundaswamy began his musical training at the tender age of five, under the guidance of his father. He showed an exceptional talent for the veena, a plucked string instrument, and quickly mastered its intricate techniques. At the age of 12, Nanjundaswamy was introduced to the world of Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form, by his uncle, Nanjappa Sastry. Nanjundaswamy made his debut as a veena player at the age of 15, and soon became known for his exceptional talent.
