A Poignant Monologue on Race and Colorism in America: A Woman's Perspective
My name is Sarah. I am a Black woman. I am here today to share my story about race and colorism in America.
I grew up in a small town in the South. I was the only Black child in my class. I was often teased and called names. I was made to feel like I was different, like I didn't belong.
As I got older, the discrimination I faced became more overt. I was denied jobs, promotions, and even housing because of my race. I was pulled over by the police for no reason. I was followed by security guards in stores.
Colorism, a form of discrimination based on skin color, has also played a significant role in my life. I have been told that I am "too dark" to be successful. I have been excluded from social groups because of my skin color. I have been made to feel like I am not beautiful because I do not fit the Eurocentric beauty standards that are prevalent in our society.
The racism and colorism I have experienced have had a profound impact on my life. I have struggled with depression and anxiety. I have had trouble finding and keeping jobs. I have had difficulty forming healthy relationships.
But I am not alone. Millions of Black women in America have similar experiences. We are tired of being discriminated against. We are tired of being treated like second-class citizens. We are tired of being told that we are not good enough.
We are here today to say that enough is enough. We are demanding change. We are demanding equality. We are demanding justice.
I know that the fight for racial justice will not be easy. But I am determined to make a difference. I am committed to fighting for a world where all people are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race or color.
Thank you for listening to my story. I hope that it will inspire you to join the fight for racial justice.
