Charlie Parker was born on August 29, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri. His father was a singer, and his mother was a pianist. Parker began playing the saxophone at a young age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already playing professionally.
Parker was influenced by a variety of musical styles, including swing, blues, and bebop. He was also a voracious listener, and he would often transcribe the solos of other saxophonists, such as Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins.
The Bebop Revolution
