- Private Angelo Maggio (Frank Sinatra),a good-natured Italian-American soldier who is in love with Alma Burke (Donna Reed),a prostitute
As the soldiers prepare for war, they face a number of challenges, including racism, sexism, and homophobia. They also struggle with the boredom and isolation of life on a military base. However, they also find love, friendship, and meaning in their lives.
